Steven David Wetter was born at, and died at, Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas.

He enjoyed hunting, woodworking, and being outdoors at the lake. His mother, Kathleen, taught him a true respect for women and a love for home cooking. His father, legendary banjo player, Marvin “Smokey Montgomery” Wetter, instilled a love for music in Steve from a young age.

Family and friends spent many entertaining summers at Smokey and Kathleen’s “Barn-de-Voo” at Lake Weatherford listening to the band, with Smokey on the banjo and Steve on the drums. Steve invited his pretty green-eyed girlfriend Denise to these July 4th gatherings, which set the stage for wedding bells.

Steve and Denise were the proud parents of son Steven Montgomery “Monte” Wetter, and daughter Mandi Kathleen Wetter. Years later, at a party at his in-law’s home at Lake Weatherford, continuing the music legacy, Monte played the saxophone with his dad on the drums. During one of these fun gatherings, Steve was very glad that Mandi met Brian Smith, also a musician, setting their stage for wedding bells.

Steve loved and admired his older brother Gary, and his wife Linda who was a beautiful sister-in-law to Steve through all their years. Gary and Linda’s son and daughter, Greg and Kaylyn, and their spouses and children, brought many proud smiles to Steve.

Steve is remembered for his endless sense of humor. He always got a laugh when he proclaimed, “Nachos aren’t yours until you pay for them.” And, “How long has it been since you’ve had a bowl of Wolf Brand Chili?”

Steve liked animals and was never without a dog. Cooper, his final companion, never left Steve’s side. Monte will continue to care for Cooper, along with his dog, Banjo.

Steve and Denise raised their family in the Rockwall area and Steve’s wishes were that his headstone be placed at Resthaven next to his beloved wife Denise; but that Monte, Mandi, and Brian, a drone expert, spread his ashes across Lake Weatherford.

Steveo, as he is fondly called, will always be regarded for his genuine love for his wife, children, the Wetter family, his sidekick Phil, sister-in-law Brenda, in-laws Scott and Susie, nieces and nephew, and his many longtime friends whom he treasured.

He will find eternal humor knowing that every time we eat nachos or chili that we will think of him.

Considering that one of his favorite songs is “The Weight,” we know that Steve has “taken a load off” in heaven.

We will honor his memory with cheers and fireworks, dedicated to him, each July 4th at Lake Weatherford.

Steveo, thank you for the endless love and laughter! You will forever remain in our hearts and prayers.
